If the objective is to draw a warrior or a creature with superpower (specifically of a mind power; the likes of Jedi mind trick), details of the mind-power ought to be figured out but the main question is how to depict a dominant mentality in a design?
Sometimes in characters or creatures with powers of that nature, their physical characteristic and body type (size of the muscle or strong bone structure) becomes less imperative. It’s a commonly known legend that supernatural powers are achieved by expanding consciousness and mastering spirituality to gain control of the mind (i.e. mind over matters).
In this particular work I did not use a modern weapon, since this character has a powerful piercing look along with some basic weapons. Reason being he relies on his superpower and not tools and weapons, his self-awareness is substantial and all he does is whispering strange charms with confidence and that’s all he needs.
It goes without saying that you should define your characters personality before you start the design. It’s best to have a list of characteristic traits and even visual features of your character before you begin. Physical description, quality definition and temperament, are often labeled with descriptive adjectives and are valued aspects of a person’s behavior or treatment.
Beginners may start without a specific plan and go with the flow of the process but a pro will never embark on a journey without having the road mapped out. A true artist has a complete definition of the character he/she is about to design as well as the character background.
If your work is mainly in video games, animation or illustration and you require inspiration to begin your design, having access to image sources is key for achieving a realistic style personage.
keep in mind that despite being skilled in anatomy, drawing, lighting, texturing etc. first and foremost you must discover the attributes of your character, and never shy away from getting inspiration from distinctive design of other artists, remember artistic exaggeration can make your design unique.
