2D digitised Scu 10

Digital painting is the process of painting on a tablet and creating artwork digitally on a computer. This rusty, aged metal textured piece of 2D digital art has been wholly painted on a digital canvas. I did not use any imported photos or pictures to create this box. This is an artistic endeavor that uses computer technology as part of the creation and presentation process.

Many people have the misconception that the medium of digital art or digital painting solely relates to photography, but there are several subcategories of digital art including; digital painting, digital sketching, digital sculpting/3D, concept art, environment concept art, character art/ design, digital illustration, matte painting, and many more that expand this technological art far beyond a cameras and lenses.

This 2D sculpture has been painted in Photoshop, when you look at the surface of this work specially the texture of the box which again has been done completely via Photoshop, you will be able to distinguish the layers that have been placed meticulously to create texture and sense of realism that this work resonates.

Texture is defined as the physical composition of something, or the look and / or the feel of a fabric. In art there are four types of general textures: actual, simulated, abstract, and invented texture, in this work I’ve used a combination of invented and actual.

With this type of work at times I have to clarify that they in fact are 2D digital artworks, since some people can’t recognize that at first glance, and think they are photographs or done in 3D.

In this particular work I wanted to depict a rusty metal look, I chose an oxidation over a long period and a unique turquoise color for the figures, forms, and simulated the patina texture.

You can very well copy and paste textures from a photograph, but I prefer to create my own design and texture from scratch, cause aside from the authenticity factor, this method insures that the texture is in perfect composition with the subject when applied, and the artist’s signature voice will be resonant.
